Scandal and Babes

Hey how are you?  I know it’s been a little while since you heard from me…like 2 months. :)  I wish I could tell you that I was being super productive and making a huge impact on the whole of humanity, but that would be a HUGE lie.

The truth is that most of my time over the last two months has been spent binge watching Scandal on Netflix and connecting with my children.  After having my third I felt like I had lost a little of the connection with my older two.  I went in survival mode. So I have not been working long hours or blogging or sharing my business with the world because I just needed a moment.  I needed to refocus on my kids and with so few hours in the day I made a choice.  I made a choice that almost every minute that I was not with my daughters that I was going to really get to know Olivia Pope and the rest of the gladiators. 

I am happy to announce that since summer camp ended I have finished all FOUR seasons of Scandal!  Now that the show has started again on live TV I can just DVR it instead of watching on an Ipad with headphones.  It wasn’t as easy as you might think.  I had to get all of my kids to bed before 8:30 so I would have enough time for 1 and a half episodes before I needed to go to bed.  I had to be really quiet as I lay in bed next to my baby so that I wouldn’t wake her before it was time for her next feeding.  I had to figure out how to watch Netflix on my TV in my living room without asking my husband (God forbid he know what I was up to ; ).  I had to get to pick up at my oldest school 30 minutes early so I could finish the episode that I was watching on the TV at home.  I also had to learn to pace myself so I could fully enjoy the love triangle between Jake, Fitz and Olivia. 

I did it though.  I finished watching almost 70 hours of television.  It wasn’t easy, but I did it!

That was my accomplishment.  Of course my girls were also thrilled that Mommy was picking them up from school every day, that we had fun stuff to do pretty much every weekend, that I could be at Mady’s Cheer practice & games and that I was present.

I also went out for date nights, hung out with my niece and nephew, and got adjusted to my new schedule.

Here is the main takeaway that I hope you get from this.  You can take a break.  You don't need to be super productive all the time.  You are worthy and good enough just by being YOU!!  Your worth is not connected to your output.  

Now that I have that goal under my belt I am moving on to my next one.  I need your help though and I promise it won’t take too much time or cost you anything AND it might even help a mom in your circle.

You see before I got sucked into binge watching Netflix I wrote a book.  It is called, Mindful Mommy:10 Secrets for Healing Your Mind, Body and Spirit After Having a Baby.  It is about my struggles with postpartum adjustment after the birth of my third and aims to inspire new moms to take care of themselves and to make self-care a priority.  So many moms experience a change in their mental health after having a baby and yet they are afraid to talk about it.  There is nothing shameful about anxiety or depression AND with support moms can feel better. 

So what do I need you to do?  My goal is to get my book into the hands (or Dropbox) of 1000 new moms.  I have partnered with my pediatrician and OB/GYN locally but I hope this information will be shared across the country.  If you are willing would you mind sharing this link with your friends and family?  I have created a page so that individuals can buy the hard copy of the book from Amazon OR download it for free if they don’t have the resources.  EVERY new mom (and her partner) needs to know how to heal physically and emotionally after having a baby.  When mamas are happy so are their babies.
