Katie Albosta Kelly is a Michigan native and graduated from Michigan State University in 2001. Katie's life has taken her in many directions from politics, to sales, to owning her own business, to marriage & motherhood and now back to politics.
On September, 11th 2001 Katie was just beginning her internship in Washington, DC and finishing up a political science degree. After the attacks she saw the Pentagon burn and knew from that moment that she wanted to be involved politically and that she would use her voice. Since then Katie started a career in sales which led her to the discovery of yoga and its mindful lifestyle. Katie decided to quit her successful career with a Fortune 500 Company and open a yoga studio in her hometown. Her husband Jeff took over his fathers chiropractic practice and she opened Great Lakes Yoga in 2011.
Soon after she and Jeff welcomed Mackenzie (age 3) and Weston (age 2). During the 8th month of her second pregnancy Katie was approached to run for political office and won a close election. She juggled yoga and politics for the past two years and decided to run for a full time position and won again this November. "I am so grateful for yoga as I entered motherhood...I don't think I would have survived the transition without it." "I'm so proud to be a politician. So many try and run away from that label but I'm embracing it! My children, especially my daughter, need to see me stand up for what's right and be a positive role model. Women need to start participating in the political process and use their voice!"
During our interview Katie shares how she is able to balance motherhood with work and following her dreams.
