Dear Sweet Teenager,
I wanted to write to you to let you know that it gets better. Right now, your life is hard. The pressure can be overwhelming at times. To get good grades. To fit in. To be kind. To be successful. To be well rounded. It is so much for someone so young.
Some days might be ok….and then there are the days where EVERYTHING seems to go wrong. You don’t have anywhere to sit at lunch. Your friends are mad at you or just not being nice. Your siblings are annoying or seem to get all the attention. Your parents have so many expectations. YOU have so many expectations of yourself. On top of all of this your brain is going through a massive transformation and really isn’t equipped to understand all of these “adult” challenges.
Sex. Drugs. Alcohol. Bullies. Anxiety. School. Social Media. You should not have to figure all of this out on your own. Some days it might feel like ending your life is a solution to be free from all of this stress.
I am here to tell you that suicide is NOT the solution.
You can learn to be resilient and overcome every shitty part of your life. You can learn tools to help you feel more fulfilled and happy. There are adults (like me) who really care about you and want the best for you.
There ARE people who love you just for being you, not because of how you look, how cool or smart you are. There are people who want to be a shoulder to cry on and a source of strength when those bad days come.
Please always remember.
You are not alone. You are enough. You are lovable. You are strong.
